在英語中,spend, cost, take, pay都有"花費"之意。但它們是有區別的。spend的主語必須是"人",賓語可以是錢、精力、時間等。
其後用on+名詞或用in(可省略)+動名詞形式。它是在表示"某人買東西花多少錢"時使用。如:
she spends too much money on clothes. 她在服裝上面花費太多的錢。he spends half an hour playing football every day.
他每天踢半小時足球。cost的主語必須是"物"或"事",表示"費用"、"耗費"。它是在表示"東西的價值、**"時使用。

how much does this ruler cost? 這把尺子多少錢?take表示"花費"時,主語一般是"一件事"。
如:it took me half an hour to do housework. 做家務花去我半小時時間。
it takes a lot of money to buy the house. 買這座房子要花很多錢。pay的基本意思是"支付",作為及物動詞,賓語可以是"人"、"錢"。
如:he paid the taxi and hurried to the station. 他付了計程車的錢,匆忙向車站趕去。
we had to pay 200 franc. 我們得付二百法郎。i'll pay you in a few days.
