一、指意不同
1、other可作形容詞或代詞，做形容詞時，意思是「別的，其他」，泛指「其他的(人或物)。
例句：after her departure the others resumed the discussion.
她走之後，其餘的人繼續討論。
2、the other指兩個人或物中的一個時，只能用the other，不能用other，此時的other作代詞。
例句：he has two daughters. one is a nurse, the other is aworker。
他有兩個女兒，一個是**，另一個是工人。
二、後接詞不同
1、the other後可加單數名詞，也可加複數名詞。
例句：mary is much taller than the other girls。
瑪麗比其他的女孩高得多。
2、此時的other作形容詞。
例句：onthe other side of the street，there is a tall tree。
在街道的另一邊，有一棵大樹。
三、用法不同
1、other後即可接可數名詞複數形式又可接不可數名詞。

2、the other 定指其它的……，其後可接可數名詞和單數。
